Coursera: English Advance C1 Module 2
Hello folks, and welcome back to my blog, my name is Fachry putranto sukarmin. Today I’m going to share my second-week experience studying on Coursera, specifically in the English Advanced C1 course. This week had a completely different theme and took me deeper into expressive language and the world of art, so here’s how it went.
In this second module, the course focused on how art influences our lives and how to talk about it using more expressive and natural-sounding English. The learning objectives for Week 2 included using expressive language in conversation, applying modifiers to enhance meaning, and using ellipsis and adverbs for emphasis to communicate more smoothly. Another major goal was learning how to understand, describe, interpret, and express opinions about art, as well as planning and writing a discursive essay.
Throughout the module, I completed a series of videos, readings, and graded practice assignments. The week began with the introductory video Art is the New Influencer, followed by the Video Language task where I scored 100%. The vocabulary and grammar sections introduced new modifiers, ellipsis, and expressive phrases, and my scores for these were 88.88% for vocabulary practice and 100% for grammar practice. I also worked through expressive language and extra language practice tasks, both with full marks.
The module then shifted to activities related to art interpretation, such as the Art Exhibition Catalogue (84.61%), Creating a Self-portrait, and a discussion prompt about visiting the MoMA online. There were several additional readings on art, language, and global English, along with skill-based sections in watching, writing, reading, listening, and speaking. My graded assignments in these sections included 100% for reading and 94.44% for listening.
The week ended with the graded assignment End of Week 2 Art is the New Influencer, where I received a score of 90%. Overall, this module helped me expand my expressive vocabulary, understand artistic concepts better, and communicate opinions about art in a more natural and advanced way.
Here are some examples of the tasks and my score.
My thoughts
During Week 2, the topic about art and expressive language was actually fun and more engaging than I expected. The activities helped me expand my vocabulary and learn how to describe art and opinions more naturally. But just like Week 1, this module still relied a lot on AI-based feedback instead of real instructors. Some explanations were clear, but the lack of human interaction made the course feel a bit “distant.” Even so, I enjoyed the content and learned new skills, especially in using modifiers and ellipsis, which made my writing sound more advanced. Overall, Week 2 was helpful, but I still think the course would be stronger with more real teacher involvement.
